Iced 'Mocha'

June 25, 2020 By lovecheflaura Leave a Comment

This Iced Mocha contains no dairy, no refined sugars and no....coffee! Yup, you read that right! Instead of using coffee, I used Rasa's Cacao Brew which is full of energizing adaptogens and cacao for a chocolatey drink.

If you're like me, coffee is more than just your morning coffee. It's a ritual. It's what gets me out of bed in the morning. And when my kids don't sleep well, coffee is what gets me through the day. But is it really healthy to rely on coffee in that way? When I do sleep well, I love my cozy mornings with my warm mug, but I need it when the nights are long and not restorative. This is why I love Rasa. Rasa is full of healthy adaptogens that provide immune boosting benefits and helps you naturally boost your energy rather than relying on a high jolt of caffeine.

Now, Rasa is not going to provide a quick fix over night. At least that's what I noticed. These adaptogenic wellness tonics are brewed just like coffee and are meant to provide energy over long periods of time. You have to stick with it to see the reward. My two favorites are the Cacao Brew and the Dirty blend. The Cacao Brew is what I used for this Iced Mocha recipe. It's like a chocolatey tea. It's so yummy! The Dirty Blend contains coffee with the addition of adaptogens. I think it's the perfect in between blend for someone who wants to cut back on coffee but doesn't want to go cold turkey. Check out all of Rasa's products here!

Why Rasa is an amazing company:

  • Woman owned
  • USDA Organic certified
  • Whole 30 Certified
  • Gluten-free
  • Vegan
  • Refined sugar-free

Adaptogens help you to freak out slower (& less intensely!), and recover faster in response to stress...all while increasing stress resilience overall. These amazing super herbs work through both your hormonal and nervous systems to help your body cope with stress more effectively. This "multiple pathway action" is known as "network" pharmacology," and is the opposite of pharmaceutical drugs, which are "one drug, one action."

Iced 'Mocha"

A refreshing coffee free drink that contains immune boosting adaptogens and sweet cacao
Prep Time20 mins
Chill Time:1 hr
Total Time1 hr 20 mins
Course: Drinks
Cuisine: American
Keyword: chocolate, dairy-free, drinks, snack, vegan, vegetarian
Servings: 2 drinks

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp Rasa Cacao Brew
  • 16 oz water
  • ½ cup coconut milk or nut milk of choice
  • 4 tsp maple syrup

Instructions

  • Measure out the 16 ounces of water and bring to a boil on the stove top. Add the 4 tablespoons of Rasa Cacao Brew (I know this is double than what Rasa recommends. We want the brew to be strong so we are adding double!) to a french press or to a tea filter. Once the water is boiling, pour on top of the Rasa Cacao Brew and allow to rest for 20 minutes. Once brewed, place in a glass container and chill in the refridgerator for a minimum of one hour
  • Once chilled, combine the brewed Rasa, coconut milk and maple syrup in a drink shaker (or pour in a glass and stir with a straw!) and shake for about twenty seconds or until everything is well mixed. Pour over ice and enjoy!

I went dairy-free almost 7 years ago. Nut milk suc I went dairy-free almost 7 years ago. Nut milk such as almond and coconut quickly became my go-to for coffee creamer, smoothie bases, etc... What I didn't really think about when it came to nut milk was what was in them.

It's nearly impossible nowadays to find a nut or seed-based dairy-free milk without added preservatives, sugar, and stabilizers. Stabilizers such as guar gum, gum arabic, and carrageenan wreck havoc on your gut. If you don't have time to make your own, I highly recommend @malk The only ingredient in their products is the nut they are making milk out of. And those nuts are organic! Added bonus! So if you don't want to use my 2- 2-minute nut milk hack, try and buy your nut milk as cleans s possible.

I have really been loving my smoothies lately. Smoothies are a great way to get a bunch of greens into your diet. Just add a few handfuls of spinach or another green and blend away 🌿!

This Mint Smoothie is a McDonald's Shamrock Shake copycat, but a whole lot healthier. It is so minty and refreshing! Top it off with some raw cacao nibs for a mint chip kind of vibe 🤩!

I know I'm posting this well before lunch, but I wanted to give you lots of time to go to the grocery store for tonight's dessert 😂

I am all about indulging in dessert once in a while. I mean, I used to be a pastry chef. I love my sweet treats! But if you do, make it a little bit more tasty and a lot more healthy.

Cookies and Cream Milkshake has decadent cookies blended with either homemade vegan vanilla ice cream (or your favorite store-bought ice cream for an even easier recipe!). This milkshake is similar to an Oreo milkshake, but it's vegan, dairy-free, and doesn't contain all the questionable ingredients that are in an Oreo cookie 😍

Freshly baked bagels are one of my favorite things Freshly baked bagels are one of my favorite things in the world 🤩! Bagels are not easy to make. They require making the dough, rising the dough, shaping the dough, boiling the dough, topping the dough with your favorite toppings, and then finally baking the dough. This is a common reason bagels are not made at home.

Thankfully, this recipe has only 6 ingredients and doesn't require rising or boiling! I mean, we all need some easy AND delicious recipes in our lives! And before you ask, yes, these bagels are also nut-free!

When we start to dive into paleo baking, one of the most common baking flours is almond flour. Unfortunately, a lot of people avoid nuts for allergies or other reasons. This recipe uses two paleo-compliant flours, tapioca starch, and coconut flour which are both nut-free 🙌🏼! Thank the breakfast Gods!

All this sunny and warm weather in Northern Michig All this sunny and warm weather in Northern Michigan has got me excited for summer ☀️!! I may have to bust out the grill and make some Grilled Mango Lime Chicken because you know, 40 degrees and sunny feels like 80 degrees and sunny in February 🤣 Anyone else ready for summer?

Traditional almond milk and other nut milk are mad Traditional almond milk and other nut milk are made by blending roasted or soaked nuts in water and then straining the liquid. This 2-Minute Almond Milk uses ground almond butter (my favorite is from @sunandswellfoods) blended with water for quick and easy homemade nut milk that has no added oils, preservatives, or stabilizers. Yay for a happy tummy 🤗!

This recipe is incredibly easy! Blend all the ingredients on medium for about two minutes. The almond milk will go from a tan color to beige and almost white when it's ready. Once blended, pour into a large glass container such as a pitcher with a lid and store it in the fridge for up to three days 🙌🏼!

If you're not an almond fan, don't worry! The options for making fresh homemade nut milk from nut butter are endless. Try the recipe with cashew butter, hazelnut butter, or even sunflower butter for a nut-free option ✨

I’m just going to say it and get it out of the w I’m just going to say it and get it out of the way: LUMPY BONE BROTH IS NORMAL! I just needed to say it before we continue 😂

As I said, thick and lumpy broth is normal! It means you made a gut-healing and highly nutritious liquid that you can now use in all sorts of dishes. Lumpy and thick means lots of collagen and protein!

Making your own chicken bone broth at home is not only incredibly easy, but it’s also less expensive and healthier. Why would I want to buy store-bought chicken broth, chicken stock, or chicken bone broth? Depending on the brand, there can be added cane sugar and natural chicken flavor. What? Isn’t what I am buying already chicken-flavored? Why do I need more flavor? Also, high-quality bone broth is expensive! Like 12 bucks for 2-3 cups expensive! Making your own bone broth at home is easy, delicious, and inexpensive.
